Description

Lipedema Leg Liposuction in Newport Beach: 40-Year-Old Woman – Full-Leg Results 3 Months After Surgery

Before Treatment

This 40-year-old woman came to board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. John Larson in Newport Beach, California, with lipedema affecting her legs, arms, and torso. She had previously had breast and abdominal procedures with another surgeon, but her lipedema had not been treated. Her legs were the first priority, because the condition was affecting her comfort and mobility in daily life.

Her main concerns:

  • Lipedema of both legs, from the thighs through the calves
  • Heaviness and achiness in her legs
  • Swelling and easy bruising in the affected areas
  • Limited mobility, including discomfort in her knees
  • Additional lipedema of the arms and torso

Her Surgical Journey

We began her treatment with her legs, using power-assisted liposuction to remove the lipedema tissue along the full length of each leg in a single operation.

  • Full-leg lipedema liposuction. Power-assisted liposuction of both lower extremities, treating the thighs, knees, and calves for a smoother, more proportionate contour.

Her plan includes later stages to address her arms and torso.

How She’s Doing Now

She is doing well three months after surgery (photos captured at 3 months post-op), and she reports a significant improvement in how her legs feel day to day. Her contours will continue to refine as swelling resolves over the coming months.

  • Significant improvement in heaviness and achiness in her legs
  • Improved mobility, including in her knees
  • Slimmer, more proportionate legs from thigh to ankle
  • Smoother contours through the thighs, knees, and calves
  • Looking ahead to her next stages for the arms and torso

Her first stage addressed the lipedema in her legs, relieving the symptoms that had limited her most and giving her lighter, more comfortable legs.

Common Questions About This Case

Can lipedema liposuction improve leg heaviness and knee discomfort?
Lipedema tissue adds weight to the legs and often collects around the knees. This patient reported significant improvement in heaviness, achiness, and mobility, including in her knees, three months after her leg surgery.

Can I have lipedema surgery if I’ve had other cosmetic procedures?
Yes. This patient had breast and abdominal procedures with another surgeon before coming to us. Those surgeries did not treat her lipedema, so we planned her lipedema care separately, beginning with her legs.

Does lipedema leg liposuction always require a thigh or calf lift?
Not always. Whether skin removal is needed depends on skin quality and how much tissue is removed. This patient’s legs were treated with liposuction alone.

How long does it take to see results after lipedema leg surgery?
This patient’s photos were taken three months after surgery. Contours typically continue to improve for several more months as swelling resolves.
